Terrika London’s grandmother, Mildred Baptiste, was one of the first African Americans to earn a nursing degree from Our Lady of the Lake and her mother, Peggy, finished high school at age 15 and immediately went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Southern University. Terrika, who lives in EBRPHA’s Kelly Terrace community, just began her third semester at BRCC. Her goal: To earn an Associate of Nursing degree and then to earn Bachelor of Nursing credentials. She also works as a nurse’s aide, providing essential care to the elderly. Surely, the gift of caring for others is deep and embedded in the heart of Terrika London. We believe she will achieve her goal for a great life by continuing the family tradition of nursing!
Viewers watching the evening news on WVLA get to see the work of Antione Lacey, a 26-year old photographer and storyteller working behind the scenes. He recently shared the news of EBRPHA’s Beds for Kids initiative, interviewing families that received beds for their children. More than 50 children had been sleeping on the floor. Antione himself was raised in Kelly Terrace, an EBRPHA community. He earned an associate degree at BRCC and a degree in Film from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. Today, Antione works full-time in the News Department. He attributes his mother, Benita Lacey, RN, for encouraging his career. Antione, who loves all forms of arts, recently had a showing of his still photos at the East Baton Rouge Parish Library. The exhibit’s title is “Muse: Fade to Black.” He dreams of traveling and showing in galleries around the world to continue to tell the stories of life through his photography, cinematography, videography, poetry and other creative works. We believe that Antione has achieved his goals of a great life while deeply enriching others’ lives along the way!
